Position : Associate Professor in Sustainable Engineering Design

Université Joseph Fourier – Grenoble (France) Department of Physics and Engineering

To expand our strong research and education activity, we are seeking an assistant professor to join our sustainable engineering design centre at G-SCOP laboratory. We are looking for candidates with a strong background in engineering and design. It is expected that this person will contribute to the development of the “ecodesign” research activities. He or she will have to supervise young researchers and to participate to the design center research animation.

The centre for sustainable engineering design will provide world-class capability to enable industry to deliver high value products and solutions with outstanding sustainability in their whole life cycle. The centre is involved in the European GENESI project on eco-design platform and several national and industrial projects on sustainable solutions for industry and city, environmental impact assessments to support design decision making and design methods and tools. The core partners are the EPA French Agency ADEME and the French Research Agency ANR. The centre is also supported by several industry partners (ST Microelectronics, Orange, FABER, Groupe SEB, Quiksilver, Granta Design, CETIM…) and has developed strong partnerships with Cranfield University, University of Bath, Linkoping University, Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Universita delle Marche…

The research post will cover projects on models for products and solutions eco-design integrating both the environmental performances and the design tools. It will start with the development of the eco-design platform in the GENESI European consortium and applied research with industry.

The teaching part of the post deals with lectures and exercises in the field of design for sustainable products to introduce new design indicators to future engineers (mainly energy and material efficiency, recycling and end-of-life strategies…).

For the post, you may have a PhD in mechanical/manufacturing/material/production and will be keen to develop solutions and technologies to support industry. Prior experience and background in the subject area will be preferred. You are welcome to express interest as soon as possible. The position will be free on 1 September 2012. The selection of the person will be in March from a University standard procedure.
