Feb. 2-3, 2012 - 2nd Publishing Workshop

A Workshop to foster publications in Engineering Design

The International Workshop to foster Publications in Engineering Design is a brand new workshop, promoted by the Design Society. This workshop has been conceived and organised by the G-SCOP Research Centre in Grenoble.

Objective

- This Workshop aims at helping researchers transform their presented papers from the past Design or ICED Conferences into high quality journal submissions.
It also offers an opportunity to the two research communities working in the field of Design (Engineering Science and Management Science) to share their point of view.
For the authors, the main benefit of attending the workshop is the constructive feed-back they will receive on their papers. From there, they should be able to rework their papers for direct submission to a journal through the regular review process.

Content

- The concept of the workshop is to gather around a table one editor and 4 to 6 authors in order to discuss the quality of their publications and to suggest ways of improvement. The Editors of the following journals have already agreed to attend the workshop again this year :

- CoDesign (Taylor and Francis), Janet McDonnell (Editor in Chief)
- Computers in Industry (Elsevier), Harinder S. Jagdev (Co-Editor in Chief)
- Design Studies (Elsevier), Norbert Roozenburg (Associate Editor)
- Journal of Design Research (Inderscience), Ina Klaasen (Editor in Chief)
- Journal of Engineering Design (Taylor and Francis), Steve Culley (Associate Editor)
- Journal of Mechanical Design (ASME), Bernard Yannou (Associate Editor)
- Research in Engineering Design (Springer), Petra Badke-Schaub (Area Editor)
- Technovation (Elsevier), Jonathan Linton (Editor in Chief)

Organization

- Plenary Sessions
They include a presentation of the journals and panel discussions with editors to understand the requirements and the publication process of the target journals.

- Small Group Sessions
Discussions between one of the editors and 4 to 6 the authors take place in these small group sessions. Each author presents his research paper project. The editor acts as an expert as well as an adviser. The authors act as reviewers for the paper of the other participants.
